BIOJOY is the synergistic combination of many different enlightening experiences including Divinely Directed Dreaming, Inner Space Explorations, Group Mind Games, I Ching Work, Pyramid Powers, and Transcendental Meditation. TACT Ministers use all these techniques, plus others, synergistically: that is, the result is greater than the sum of each individual power. We use all these techniques in our daily lives and we urge our ministers to do the same. One of the oldest and one of the most effective of our BIOJOY programs is Transcendental Meditation. It has been scientifically proven that the state of alert relaxation produced by the "Relaxation Response" is equivalent to the state produced by religious meditation, yoga, dervish, deep prayer, etc., and all human beings can do it. The following instructions are used by TACT ministers daily and have been tested at Thorndike Memorial Labs, Channing Labs, and Harvard Medical Units, to teach subjects to relax. This technique produced the same slowdown in metabolism associated with TM and religious forms of meditation. FIVE STEPS TO RELAXATION ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 1. Sit quietly in a comfortable position. 2. Close your eyes. 3. Deeply relax all your muscles, beginning at your feet and progressing up to your face. Keep them deeply relaxed. 4. Breathe through your nose. Become aware of your breathing. As you breathe out, say the word "one" to yourself. E.g. breathe in...out, "one," in...out, "one," and so on. 5. Continue for 20 minutes. Occasionally open your eyes to check the time. When you finish, sit quietly for several minutes at first with closed eyes and later with open eyes. Don't worry about whether you are successfully achieving a deep level of relaxation. Maintain a passive attitude and permit relaxation to occur at its own pace. When distracting thoughts occur,ignore them and continue repeating "one." With practice, the response shout come with little effort. Practice the technique once or twice daily, and not within two hours of any meal, since the digestive processes seem to interfere with the elicitation of the anticipated changes.
